Golden Rule's March 2011 Look Book

It appears to be anything other than Spring Break over at Golden Rule. The March Look Book is out. Shot at PSU the designs are studious and Breakfast Club-ie. Check it out for yourself...

Projects to Come

A quick snapshot of the fabric pile I am going to attack next week: olive boucle and a thick jersey knit strip... so stay tuned. Happy Friday!

Boys in Blue Boucle

Now repeat the title of this post five times fast!

While you are tongue tied the hubby is staying warm in the boucle crew-neck sweater that I constructed for him this morning. It should help him fight the recent February freeze.

Good Morning Portland

Just a quick snap shot of the view from our rear window this morning. A brief dusting of snow.

Dancing Tank

Just a quick project I whipped up today with my new serger and some jersey knit scraps.
Ta-da! The new top for dance class. Slightly asymmetrical, so it will look great with the leg warmers. Now, everybody cut footloose!

The Bathing Cap

My friend Shelby over at No Wire Hangers gave me this pink vintage bathing cap. I suppose since it was so sunny today, I was daydreaming of warmer weather and lounging poolside. Now, I just have to pull out the retro shades and the one piece.

Happy President's Day

I hope you are enjoying the conclusion of the long weekend. And here are a few snap shots from my personal favorite fashion icon who spent some time at the White House.

Crustacean... Weekend Ready

Just a quick sketch of one of my favorite crustaceans... and a reminder to stay un-crabby this weekend even though it is pouring outside.

There are more projects and fashion related posts to come next week so stay tuned.

Under Pressure...

...or at least that is how we prepared the steak for dinner last night. Wednesday evening marked our first cooking lesson with Craig and our new pressure cooker. The recipe was beef chili with jalapeños, kidney and white beans. The result: delicious. We also invited Kate and Niall over to help us consume the contents of the pot. Dessert: Lillet Blanc.

The Here and Now

It is still Fashion Week in New York and I have been keeping up (best I can) on the latest catwalks and styles on the street. With a special thanks to Bill Cunningham, the Sartorialist, Garance Doré and the New York Times as they have been incredible resources.

Looking at the new lines and silhouettes for this fall (and the fur, my goodness the fur), I was compelled to compile a mood board of my own. Some images to inspire my wardrobe choices here in late winter/early spring... and if they carry over into fall even better.

Mighty Wallets

Here is the item we were after in Powell's on Saturday afternoon: the Mighty Wallet. These wallets are awesome. They are incredibly thin and durable, made from Tyvek© (which is the same material used in express mail envelopes). They are even water resistant. It is one tough wallet. We picked up the classic black one but here are a few of my favorite designs.

Happy Valentine's Day

After my first trip to the Oregon Zoo on Saturday we stopped into Powell's Books to avoid the afternoon drizzle. (Our drop into Powell's actually coincides with the search of another item, but that post we will save for another day).

Anyhow, now, where was I? Oh, right, Powell's Books. The problem with ducking into Powell's is that 9 times out of 10 I don't leave empty handed. Regardless, this recent find is a gem under 6 dollars, which I am sure you can all appreciate.

And without further ado my Valentine's gift to you...

A few of the pages from my recent purchase titled God's Gift: Over 100 Studs, Stallions, and Dreamboats form the 70s and 80s.

Bon Appétit.

Modern Sheath Dress

Here are a couple quick takes of the sheath dress I constructed and tailored from the vintage Simplicity pattern. I can't wait for the weather to warm up slightly so I can adorn the dress sans overthrow (sigh). Yet, for the time being it will look chic with a string of pearls and a delicate cardigan.

Enjoy your weekend.

Incorporating Brown

All of the staples in my closet are black. Black jackets, black dresses, black tights, black shoes, black belts, even black glasses. Currently I am working on the incorporation of brown, camel, tan and copper pieces into my wardrobe and these new Hush Puppies' Jermyi are a step in that direction. I purchased these kitten heal mary-janes at Imelda's last week in the clearance section. Not only are they adorable, they are able to stand up to the 3+ miles of city blocks that I cover everyday (and no blisters to speak of). Hip hip hooray!

PS. I also need to apologize for not posting yesterday, Wednesday was simply a whirlwind of domestic duties.

Tuesday Romper

According to my laptop it is approximately 49 Degrees outside, but inside I am anxious for spring. And so the outfit for this afternoon/evening is inspired by the romper I purchased several months ago at Rad Summer and the Fleetwood Mac that is currently on the iPod. Besos.

Glasses: Goodwill
Scarf: Vintage purchase from Portland Modern
Wrap: Nordstrom Rack several seasons ago
Shoes: Danskos from Imelda's

P.S. The sheath dress is in its final stages and photos are to come.

Sheath Dress

I apologize for posting so late on a Monday. However, it has been a busy day here in Portland for your truly. Anyway...

A few months ago I purchased several vintage patterns over at Golden Rule and today was the day to try out the first one. A spin on this vintage sheath dress pattern is in the works and pictures are to come. So stay tuned.

Fridays Always a Spectacle...

... for some more than others.

However it is a doubly spectacular Friday for yours truly as I just picked up my new glasses at Reynolds Optical Co on their two for one sale. Both frames are designed by INhouse Eyewear, the store's own brand.

My world is now sharper.

Hayley Mills

For one reason or another Hayley Mills has been referenced in conversations with co-workers and friends at an alarming rate this week. However, I have very fond memories of watching and then re-watching The Parent Trap (1961). After a little YouTube investigating I am happy to offer you one of my favorite opening title numbers, in claymation no less. Enjoy.

Super Bowl Sunday Sale

Not particularly interested in the big game or seven layer dip? Maybe a better alternative would be to head down to Radish Underground for their Super Radish Sale II this Sunday from 12-5pm.

Fashionable Genes

A special Happy Birthday to my stylish mom, who has been an inspiration in more than just the fashionable sense.
